'I am my own woman': Daughter of Pauline Hanson launches Senate bid

The daughter of One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has announced she will run for the Senate in Tasmania at the federal election under her mother's party.

Lee Hanson, who has lived in the state for 13 years, says her upbringing as the daughter of the firebrand politician played a key role in shaping her decision to enter politics.

But she also insists she is determined to carve her own path in federal parliament and doesn't wish to be a "career politician".

"I have the privilege of my mother being one of the most tenacious, resilient and strongest women in Australia; Pauline Hanson," she said.

"Those values have carried through to me, she's always been my role model."

"But I am my own woman. I bring my own strength and convictions. I'm part of a younger generation with a new lens and different life experiences.

"I'm fresh blood—and I'm ready to get to work."

Lee Hanson says her campaign focus will be on education, healthcare and cost-of-living pressures facing Tasmanians.

"Our hospitals and GPs are overwhelmed. Tasmanians are lucky to get in to see or afford a doctor, let alone a specialist," she said.

"GPs and maternity wards are shutting down. We have a three year wait list for our children to see a paediatrician and mental health and wellbeing services are practically non-existent."

"Our education system is broken. Teachers are struggling and our curriculum is not providing our children or our workforce with the outcomes and skills they need. Tasmania can be the exemplar in rebuilding our education system."

"Tasmanians are struggling with housing affordability and accessibility, which is impacting mental health, wellbeing and increasing homelessness."
